Serving Orphans in Moshi, Tanzania

Volunteer Programme

Introduction

Volunteers are welcome, by arrangement with Rebecca, for stays of a few weeks or up to three months. To work here, volunteers need to be aware of the effects of HIV and AIDS and have the ability to help provide the children with some normality, fun and education.

It is important you consider what you may offer. Beyond basic nursery care and help with homework, for which there will be some materials available, the initiative will largely be yours.

Activities

Most of the children attend school. After school you will need to help children with their homework, play games, teach basic English and assist the staff with the basic care of the children as well as simply giving the children some much needed love and attention. The children have had very difficult lives and they may have learning and social problems but they are extremely loving and enthusiastic. If you can offer any help to the staff in teaching them English this would also be appreciated as they would like to be able to teach the children English when there is no volunteer support.

Finances

The Home receives no State funding, so volunteers must pay their way to cover food and accommodation costs.
